Competencies

Writing

With a demonstrated ability to successfully create, develop, and deliver multiple writing and editing projects in various formats, I bring a high degree of direct skill to meeting the content requirements for a sophisticated array of clients addressing a wide range of constituencies. I have been responsible for driving varied projects for clients such as Stanford, the University of California, San Francisco, and California Pacific Medical Center, as well as Bay Area arts nonprofits and government. My work has included both web-based and hard copy initiatives to incorporate and encourage public engagement and support. Numerous writing and editing samples from different spheres of interest are available to review.

Filmmaking

A Fulbright Scholar research grant enabled me to write, direct, and produce the thirty minute arts documentary ON THE CUSP, an exploration of the architectural heritage and contemporary efforts in restoration of the hauntingly beautiful European city of Lviv, also known in the past as Lemberg, Lwow, or Leopolis.

I previously researched, wrote, and co-edited A KINGDOM REBORN: TREASURES FROM UKRAINIAN GALICIA. This one-hour documentary offered lush visuals of artistic masterpieces that have miraculously survived centuries of upheavals as well as an enchanting soundtrack featuring rediscovered texts of old Ukrainian songs, sacred choral music, and contemporary orchestral pieces.

Communications

My career path has included significant work on all five levels of strategy: positioning, communications, message, media, and creative.  I gained invaluable experience especially in the development and execution of complex public education and public affairs campaigns funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and by a distinguished list of private sector corporate clients.

I have created content for newsletters, which are an effective method of maintaining a long-term and effective presence by an organization with the media and public. One example includes reportage for the irrepressible Burning Man Arts/Black Rock Arts Foundation team  in San Francisco.

International

Based in San Francisco, thoroughly seasoned in New York, and blessed with a significant overseas tenure characterized by frequent business travel on projects throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, I have embraced the rhythms and challenges of working in the global village. Fluent in French and Ukrainian, and with a very good working knowledge of Russian as well as a reading knowledge of Polish and Italian, I work effectively with a wide range of foreign language media, texts, and speakers to provide extraordinary value to clients. Current international projects include frequent engagements as a short-term election observer for the Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) at the Organization for Security and Cooperation I Europe (OSCE), as well as strategic communications consultation, translation, and editing on behalf of the Lviv Book Forum, the Ukrainian children’s book publisher A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA, and the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter.
